Flickering is an audiovisual exploration that culminated in video pieces focusing in on the instability and fragmentation of urban spaces, capturing the tension between the physical and digital worlds. Using slow-motion footage shot on an iPhone, the project embraces the natural flickering effect that occurs when artificial light interacts with high frame rates, revealing the unseen pulse of the city. This visual distortion, coupled with a soundscape composed of field recordings from urban and industrial environments alongside excerpts from video game OSTs, constructs a haunting, fractured portrait of contemporary urban life. The video pieces were made as part of Dublin Digital Radio’s: Alternating Currents festival, and exhibited in Flux gallery Dublin.

“Echoes of Restoration” has been an immersive journey through my own experience of receiving a cochlear implant and navigating the labyrinthine pathways of sound rehabilitation. This project is both an artistic endeavor and a deeply introspective voyage into the intersection of physical restoration and emotional resonance.
The genesis of "Echoes of Restoration" lies in the heart of an abandoned Underberg factory nestled in the Heiligensee neighborhood, just an hour's journey from the bustling core of Berlin. This site, chosen with meticulous intent, served as the crucible for my artistic expression, mirroring the raw essence of my inner psyche during the tumultuous stages of sound rehabilitation.

The music video for Safe for Me captures the vulnerability of Pippa Molony’s vocals through raw, experimental techniques. Field recordings from abandoned spaces, open landscapes, and quiet interiors layered subtle ambient sounds like wind and distant voices into the track, adding depth and emotional connection.

Visually, I used an old DVCam with a corrupted tape, whose glitches and distortions added a fragmented, dreamlike quality that mirrored the song’s themes. Embracing chance and imperfection, the lo-fi textures and layered soundscape created an intimate and timeless piece.

This project, made possible through the Arts Council Agility Award I received in August 2024, reflects the fragile beauty of the music by leaning into the flaws of analog technology

a project born from my one-month residency at Studio Kura. Immersed in the ambiance of the dimly lit roads surrounding the studio, I felt compelled to capture the essence of this nocturnal journey through a unique audio-visual piece.
Using my camera, I meticulously captured 432 individual photographs of the winding streets, later sequencing them together to form a hauntingly beautiful video composition. Layered atop this visual narrative is an ambient soundscape, crafted from sounds collected on-site in the neighboring area of Studio Kura. Additionally, I drew inspiration from the eerie atmosphere of the 2001 Japanese video game "Fatal Frame," incorporating elements from its soundtrack to further enhance the immersive experience.
The genesis of this project was sparked by my fascination with "Fatal Frame," a game where players use an antique camera to uncover hidden truths. I aimed to challenge viewers to perceive the ordinary through a dark and cryptic lens, inviting them to delve into the unsettling beauty of the nighttime landscape.
The outcome of "A Walk at Night" is a brooding nightmare scape, characterized by repetition and the uncanny. Through this piece, I seek to evoke a sense of foreboding and unease in the viewers, compelling them to confront the shadows lurking within the familiar streets of Studio Kura's neighborhood.

this piece delves into the post-COVID society's theme, particularly focusing on isolation and reintegration. Even amidst the nationwide return to normalcy, many continue to grapple with the collective trauma of being isolated and then thrust back into a world forever changed by the pandemic.

The intention behind this short experimental work is to serve as a physical representation of this emotional journey, employing a combination of sequential photography and crafted soundscape. Sequential photography, a methodical approach capturing visuals, was utilized to depict the gradual process of isolation, withdrawal, and eventual reintegration into society. Each frame serves as a snapshot of the emotional landscape traversed during this transformative period.

In tandem with the visual narrative, the soundscape plays a crucial role in conveying the nuanced emotions of isolation. Sounds collected on-site were meticulously crafted into an emotive soundscape, mirroring the feelings of solitude, longing, and eventual adaptation. The audio serves as a complementary layer, enhancing the viewer's immersive experience and deepening their connection to the narrative unfolding on screen.

Through the combined efforts of sequential photography and emotive soundscape, "6:88" endeavors to evoke a visceral response, inviting viewers to contemplate the profound impact of isolation and the journey toward reintegration in a world forever altered by the pandemic.

a nostalgic journey captured on Super 8 film, a medium chosen deliberately to evoke the essence of old home videos, reminiscent of my parents' recordings. Rooted in themes of relationships and community, this short film is a visual ode to my hometown, Bray, inspired by the dreams that haunted me during my time abroad.

The spark for this project ignited from these dreams, which left ghostly imprints of Bray in my mind, like fleeting memories suspended in space. With each frame, I aimed to magnify the intricate relationship between individuals and their sense of home, whether it be consciously present in our thoughts or subconsciously embedded in our dreams.

Throughout the filming process, I deliberately sought to mimic the aesthetic of vintage home videos, imbuing the footage with a sense of warmth and nostalgia reminiscent of my childhood. The use of a Super 8 camera was instrumental in achieving this desired effect, capturing the essence of fleeting moments in time.

Complementing the visual narrative, the audio elements were sourced from field recordings of my old hometown. These recordings were heavily processed through digital effects, creating a dream-like texture in the soundscape. Each sound serves as a nostalgic echo of familiar places, further immersing the audience in the ethereal atmosphere of the film.

"Amalgamation of Home" is more than just a cinematic journey; it's a deeply personal exploration of the profound connection between individuals and the places they call home. Through the fusion of Super 8 visuals and dream-like soundscapes, this film invites viewers to reminisce about their own memories and reflect on the enduring presence of home in their lives.

In our alternate music video for "Angels" by Pippa Moloney and Rory Sweeney, we embarked on a creative journey to capture the essence of the song using unconventional methods and techniques. Drawing inspiration from the ethereal blend of ambient, folk, and electronic elements in the track, we sought to create a visual narrative that echoed the mystical allure of old folklore.

To achieve this, we opted for a unique approach, utilizing a Sony Ericsson W910 mobile phone as our primary camera. Embracing the limitations of this device, we explored innovative ways to capture the essence of the song, focusing on its atmospheric qualities and emotive undertones.

Throughout the filming process, we experimented with various lighting techniques to evoke a sense of enchantment and otherworldly beauty. From soft, diffused lighting to dramatic chiaroscuro contrasts, each lighting setup was carefully crafted to enhance the mood and atmosphere of the video, mirroring the gradual release of the instrumental in the song.

Additionally, we delved into the rich tapestry of folklore and mythology, drawing inspiration from ancient tales of angels and fairies. One particular story, unearthed from Dúchas, served as a poignant source of inspiration, describing a woman who witnesses ethereal beings dancing in front of a supernatural blue light. This narrative formed the backbone of our visual interpretation, with Pippa expanding upon the story, imagining the woman's desire to join the mystical beings, even if it meant leaving behind the physical realm.

The resulting music video is a captivating journey into the realm of the fantastical, weaving together elements of mythology, ambient visuals, and evocative lighting to create a mesmerizing audio-visual experience. Through our innovative use of technology and creative storytelling, we aimed to transport viewers to a world where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, inviting them to immerse themselves in the magical allure of "Angels.
